I could see the mets taking a lot of college seniors for 20K. They hit the college senior market pretty hard last year. Mostly those guys don't work out, but nothing wrong with taking a flyer.

A little different though. Signing Seniors for 20k as undrafted FA's is an "option".

Not like drafting a Senior in round 5 or 12 or whatever and paying peanuts because it allows them to be under slot

This is teams being allowed to spend 20k on players if they "choose" to w/no ramifications at all (IE being able to invest more in another player(s)_

I just hope the Mets have a really good draft (like last yr) not bothered if other teams 'make a kiling' signing 10-20 players for 20k each

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I'm expecting to be disappointed and hoping to be surprised like last year.

I just hope they don't go below slot with Rounds 1-5 just because they have no revenue this year so far. It would be so typical yet I would still be disgusted.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Worst case, they draft low ceiling college juniors cause that's who they like. I don't see them trying to save money on the draft because it's too little saved, it's like a vet minimum contract or two. Not worth it.

Maybe they shift a 2nd round pick to 2021, but that might actually be a good idea given the 2021 draft could be extra deep, but it depends on how much they like this year's options.

That would be my pick. Although either Bitsko or Crochet would be fine as well. Since I am planning on a baseball hiatus until 2023 (no season this year, strike in 2022) at least I will have something to come back to.

These mocks are all over the place. It doesn't appear that we're going to be reaching for a Nimmo here. Someone is going to fall, they just don't agree on who it is.

Heard from multiple front office types that a team with a top-10 pick is at least considering punting the draft. That would include taking a player in the first round who they don’t intend to sign. (They would still offer the minimum required to net a comp pick for next year.)

I have a feeling they’ll take Dingler if he’s there. If not him, then the big LHer Crochet.

I can’t believe the draft is tmrw. It’s almost a non-event. It’s by far the least involved I’ve been on the draft in 10 years. I probably don’t know more than 15 names. Way to go, MLB.

In their final mock, Callis has us taking Georgia RHer Cole Wilcox and Mayo has Miss State 2Bman Justin Foscue.

Mayo usually has more insight on these picks than Callis. Foscue might not be an exciting pick but he appears to be solid across the board and probably gets to the show fairly quickly. Also like that he hits RHed. And 2B will be a need soon.
