With the new rules, moving up in the first round is more difficult. Only if the Redsox or Cubs sign a QO free agent AND if they stay above the cap - pretty far from a sure thing.

So, good chance they stay at 19, shot at 18 if the cubs make a splash. I don't think the Redsox will.

The QO compensation rules are different so fewer picks will be rewarded after the first round, so round 2 could begin as early as 37, as late as maybe 40/41.

Mets #2 pick, in the 55-59 range.

And the Wheeler compensation pick, after the 2nd round, but still a 2nd round pick, somewhere in the 74-79 range if I was to guess. Kind of hard to forcast, as it depends which picks are lost and which teams get picks ahead of NYM.

And their 3rd round pick, probably in the 90s.

So, 2020:

19
55-59 range
74-79 range
90 something - 3rd rounder.

2019:

#12
#53
#89

and this is a deeper draft, they might get a better player at 19 than they got at 12 last year. Not awful. It's not stacked with money to spend on the draft, but it's not bad.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Think that's the first time I haven't seen Martin at #1. Sounds like a real special talent.

Boston may be penalized for sign stealing later this week which could impact our draft picks.

Maybe bump up one slot for a pick or two of ours depending on if they take away a 1st or 2nd rounder etc.

Boston lost their 2nd rounder.

So:

New York Mets (19, 52, 69, 92)

Who does everyone want? I've seen a few mocks that have us taking Bitsko who got reassigned to 2020 (He was a top 2021 guy.)

Loved Zac Veen for us but he shot up the past few months prior to the shutdown so I'm assuming he looked fantastic in the pre-season tournaments or camps or whatever because they never played a season.

Hoping, also, that we stick to last summer's blueprint going after the top prospects in the first 3 rounds (BPA), then taking seniors in rounds 4-10 to allow for overpayments to the top kids.

Here's a list from mlb.com:

Mock from Callis has Mets taking SC RHP Carmen Mlodzinski.

I see a lot of mocks giving us sexy picks of guys I can't imagine still being on the Board.

This sounds like a dull, plausible pick.

Any word on how deep the draft is? How good a player they might get at 19, 52 and 69?

Last year they nabbed a first round tallent in the 3rd round, which was very cool, but it's much harder to do that this year with less slot money to move around.

Seems like it was years ago-but I do remember reading late last year that it was expected to be a pretty good and deep draft.

Maybe without the stud top 10 or top 5 you see in some years or even having a consensus top 2 or 3 but a healthy amount of talent with good upside nevertheless.

Yeah, last year they nabbed a kid in the 3rd that was expecting a big bonus-maybe they do something like that again:

RD 1 Talent deserving of pick
RD 2 Talent deserving of pick
RD 2 Big Bonus Baby
RD 3 Below Slot but decent prospect
RD 4 Senior well below slot
RD 5 Senior well below slot

*Less picks to save slot money on with only 5 rounds
**100k signing bonus and installments the next 2 years make it possible Jeff and his pal can pull it off with the Pon's broke ass..

I'd be cool with that even if they don't take advantage of the 25k signings allowed that I'm sure the smart teams will load up on.

3 TOP talents + a decent prospect (+ 2 Seniors that may provide depth) and I'm good. I'd sign up for that now 100%.
