Sounds like the Mets will be signing Jaylen Palmer, their 22nd-round draft pick from Holy Cross HS in Queens. They have ~ $1.3 million left in their pool if they go overslot on the athletic shortstop.

How is he calculating that?

Sounds like he's including the $705,300 slot for Cortes. I believe at the moment it's more like $628,200.

I hope Cortes goes way underslot...I'd still like to get at least one of Clarke and Darcy signed.

Clarke's the key to not feeling like the team missed on something/caught with pants down. Darcy's just a lotto ticket

Yeah it would be nice to get one of Darcy or Zona but Clarke is the key.

Given where he was picked, I have to think Clarke's a 10-1 long shot.

$600K + a little overage from the spending limit...hopefully a little from Cortes, that is plenty to entice.

22nd-rder Jaylen Palmer gets $200K from @Mets ($75K counts toward bonus pool). SS from @HCKBaseball in Flushing, NY had big growth spurt, now 6-3 w/power potential, maybe stay at SS or move to OF? @MLBDraft

So that definitely brings us down to an area where Clarke isn't going to happen unless they use the overrage bonus money (450K or so)

Palmer has been solid in his first 35 games between GCL/K-Port. He's been playing 3B and SS. The Ks are a bit high, but he's drawing walks at a good clip and showing off a nice power/speed combo with four homers (3 in 10 games this season) and six steals. As mentioned in this thread, Palmer was also noted for his strong arm as a prep player.

Sounds like there's a lot to like here. He's on the younger side, too, having been drafted as a 17-year-old last season. For comparison, Josh Wolf is only a month younger than Palmer, who won't turn 19 until the end of January.
