It might be better to put other team's news here, instead of making us think we've signed Steven Matz every 5 minutes....

Rays sign third-round pick to a nice bonus.

While we're at it let's see how many people think Strasburg gets signed..I'd put the odds at 70-30 he does yet I'm voting NO..because of Boras.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I say no. There is no sign of any movement from either side since I posted the thread on the subject and none of the Nats blogs are bothering to cover it.

Jake Locker did indeed sign a deal with the Angels:

To me this hinges on how well his NFL prospects are. He is like a poor man's Tebow minus the messianic hype due to not having a lot of talent around him. He is being coached by Steve Sarkissian now, a pupil to Pete Carroll and Norm Chow, who can only help him. This signing does surprise me as he has not played organized baseball in 3 years. This is Dennis Dixon in reverse.

Callis says this:

Tyler Matzek least likely to sign. Selected by Rockies and has signed a letter of intent with the University of Oregon, which has never been considered a baseball powerhouse. He has supposedly gotten an apartment in Eugene and is prepared to take classes. Rockies get 12th overall as compensation and being where the Mets are currently at in the draft that is an important note. Be mindful the Rockies have also gone over-slot and 28 of 30 picks have been signed.

More about Matzek here:

Max Stassi and the Oakland A's are close and Callis expects a deal to happen. Many other sites have reported a deal.

The A's and highly touted HS southpaw Ian Krol are still talking. He has committed to Arizona.

We are actually in line to pick 9th or 10th but I was giving credit to our September call-ups. But honestly we better hope Strasburg, Ackley, and any pick in the top 10 are signed as those picks would definitely make us lose ground.

Twins and Kyle Gibson are fall apart in negotiations. Gibson had a forearm injury prior to the draft that affected his stock but now that he has healed he wants top 10 money.

According to MLB.com's Matthew Leach, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said, "I would say there's optimism on both sides," when asked about negotiations with top pick Shelby Miller.

Richard Justice of The Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros have signed 18-yr old Ruben Alaniz for $160K as an undrafted free agent. A Texas high schooler, Alaniz "slipped through the cracks as teams prepared for the draft," but the Astros found him in a tryout camp recently and outbid at least two other teams for his services.

The aftermath of the Strasburg negotiations could be the officially naming of the Washington National General Manager. I do not think Mike Rizzo or any candidate wants to be named immediately after if there is no deal.
