Talk to your advisor? Dude, either you want to play pro baseball or you don't. What are you going to talk to him about, going back to the JC you're at and burn your arm out? Hey, Ryan Weber from St Pete Jr College, who went in the 11th Round to the Phillies last year. Call him and ask him what he should have done. This year he was in the 22nd Round by the Braves. Buchanan pisses me off. If he holds out, I'm going over to St Lucie or whereever he plays and piss him off. I hate long negotiations. Either do it or don't. The only way the Mets drafted this kid is to have a committment if he were in the top 10 rounds. We don't take players who don't commit. We pass on them. That's a fact.

Unless you work for the organization, this is far more passion for the issue than necessary. Let the kid take as much time as he needs to make his decision. He has the right to set his own price. If that price is too high, he'll suffer the repercussions later on down the road. It's that simple.

I think the kid is smart enough to realize that his future VERY likely doesn't include major league baseball, that's just the fact of the MLB draft. You want this kid to lay down and take it from the Mets? An extra 10,000 is good money, he has every right to take his time and negotiate.

PS most of the first 15-20 picks the Mets absolutely have an idea what it will take to sign them. Glenn commented how the mets gave him brochures about each minor league stop and discussed signability and this was BEFORE they picked him.

Buchanan also comments how "excited" and "pumped" he is. Clearly he wants to sign.

Draft and follow still exists, as long as you see it in a different light. I presume draft and follow now to mean that you draft someone and follow their progress in a summer league to make a decision of how much to offer by the deadline.
