The Mets system took a major hit when they traded Jarred Kelenic, so they try to fill that hole with another highly touted prep lefty centerfielder. PCA has been on radars for years and had long been rumored to be in the 1-1 conversation before an up and down summer dropped his stock. A plus runner, PCA is more quick than fast, but has elite instincts in centerfield with an above average arm and projects as an elite defensive value. He has shown more swing and miss than expected, but has a simple clean swing and his diamond kinetics is full of truly electric bat speed metrics that portend to more future power. PCA rebounded for team USA to hit .364/.405/.606 with seven XBH in nine games. PCA isn’t quite Kelenic, but he will go a long way towards healing the fanbases’ grieving hearts and is worth the likely overslot bonus he would receive here.

Might be a good pick, but I'm still pissed about trading Nolan Ryan. I won't forget Kelenic so easily.

With HS kids especially, l really like reading "good plate discipline" and hate to see " more swing and miss than expected" as it brings memories of countless big HS prospects that failed to even make the majors.

This kid may turn out to be a perennial All-Star, but I'm always weary when I hear that especially if it's said he lacks plate discipline.

A little less of a concern with college players being that they are possibly facing some pitchers that may have the "stuff" of a Low to High-A ball pitcher (but maybe lacking command).

And maybe even pitchers who are a few years away from the bigs.

But HS kid getting struck out by HS pitching scares me a bit.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I like his attitude, and there's something interesting about both of his parents being professional entertainers / min-celebrities in terms of the level of comfort he might be used to with high profile opportunities.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles failure.
