KBO Starts Tonight - with ESPN broadcasts!!

Mon May 04, 2020 1:56 pm

Here's a little KBO primer ahead of the season openers coming up.

The KBO consists of 10 teams:

Doosan Bears, Hanwha Eagles, Kia Tigers, KT Wiz, Lotte Giants, LG Twins, NC Dinos, Nexen Heroes, Samsung Lions and SK Wyverns.

FG (https://blogs.fangraphs.com/get-to-know ... -part-one/ and https://blogs.fangraphs.com/get-to-know ... -part-two/) and Fansided (https://calltothepen.com/2020/04/15/mlb ... -kbo-2020/) have put together "Players to Watch" lists of former big leaguers/names you may know.

Some ex-Mets of note:

Aaron Altherr (NC Dinos)
Chris Flexen (Doosan Bears)
Drew Gagnon (Kia Tigers)

Here are some fun logo's to debate as well:

I sort of liked Gagnon when he was here, so I say let's go Tigers!

Jared Diamond @jareddiamond
ESPN has reached an agreement with the KBO to air games from Korea live. Opening day is tomorrow. More details to come.

coco @corinnePSU
ok tell me which team has a nightmare for an owner, is full of likeable guys, and is unusually prone to heartbreak and I’ll root for them. #mets

Doosan is my team. Hopefully Flexen will actually be good over here.

In support of our fellow South Korean NYFS member, Munky00, I say we all support Doosan. Should we start the Top 50 Doosan Prospects list?

Have fun with that! ;)

I do know their 3 allotted foreign players are Flexen, Raul Alcantara, and Jose Miguel Fernandez.

They're also not very Metsian in that they've won the championship 3 of the last 5 years, and the 2 years they didn't win, they lost in the championship.

I've never tried being the fan of a really successful team. Why not try!?

First of many to come.

Phillies writers are all sharing optimism he finds stardom in the KBO, referencing what a good person he was/is. Seems like a good bet to do so in a league where pitch to contact is the approach so as to neutralize his contact issues. Maybe he's got an Eric Thames 2nd act in him.
