All time Mets vs whatever team or players ever. Chipper Jones has to be on the opposing team. For the Home team, Seaver would get the ball over Jake, I think. Obviously, that’s up to Gil. Reyes leadoff. Pete 2nd. Hard to leave Keith on the bench, but we will mic him up for commentary. Just spitballing, but does Cliff Floyd make the bench, too? He also gets a mic.

The pitching is obviously the strength. The lineup will be very good, but the pitching is all galaxy. In this winner take all contest, we’re rolling deep with arms. And that’s gotta count for something.

LFGM!

Kevin Mitchell and Cleon on the bench for the OF over Cliff.

Ces, Beltran, Straw left to right.

If we're talking strictly on field play disregarding how awful /some/ people are off field...

7 Nimmo (.400 OBP?)
6 Reyes
8 Beltran
2 Piazza
9 Strawberry
5 Wright
3 Alonso (yes, ahead of Keith)
pitcher
4 McNeil (yes, ahead of Alfonzo)

I love Nimmo, and I don't have any concrete examples of standouts, but I think that says a lot about the Mets history of outfield depth. Outside of Beltran and Strawberry, the organization doesn't have a lot of history with long-term OF stars. And yet they have Nimmo and Conforto right now.

I'll take 1969 Cleon Jones for LF

or 96 Bernard Gilkey or possibly 96 Lance Johnson.

If you're going for OBP in the leadoff spot, 40 year old Rickey Henderson had a higher OBP than Nimmo. It was his last really good year, but he was pretty solid for us.

What about Dave Kingman? Does he make the team? I never saw him play, but legendary power is legendary power.

Does McNeill make it? I’d go Fonzie at 2nd but Jeff isn’t far behind.

How about Wright batting leadoff? I’d love him in the 3 spot too, but he’d be a heckuva leadoff hitter. Maybe even moreso than Reyes. Ehh nah. 3 spot.

Reyes
Alonso
Wright
Piazza
Beltran
Straw
Fonzie
Kingman

That’s me, maybe.

Kingman in LF? Nah, Can do without the .212 averages. We already have Pete and Straw for the big power. Beltran and Piazza too.

I almost like Kingman as an honorable mention, but I don't think he makes the list. Staub for example has a higher OPS+ as a met and likely a better fielder too, though not a great fielder

You guys are sleeping on Nimmo. When healthy he's a .270/.400/.480 guy with ELITE OBP and patience.

I wouldn't take Gilkey or Agbayani or anyone over him. Especially given our 3-4-5 of Beltran, Piazza, Wright/Straw/whoever.

His best is .263/.404/.483

I still prefer 1969 Cleaon Jones (not Gilkey or Agbayani)

Rusty had the reputation of a good fielder with an excellent arm. Granted, I'm sure he declined as his body, uh, softened. But he was a much better player than Kingman regardless.
