It's a way for Fred to get one last chance at winning. If they're going for it (in their Mets way) and if they win in the next 2-3 years, Fred can hold the trophy and get credit.

Yup. I don't care one way or the other if the Wilpon's share in the credit. What I'd like to see is a winner on the field. Last year was a lot of fun, once it got going. I want more.

Woke up this morning, found out it wasn't a dream, felt the same elation I felt yesterday

They backed out of the Einhorn deal. Don't count the chickens yet...

That's what Howard Megdal said on WFAN.

I'd love to know how far along in the process this is.

Far enough that the media is going to have serious egg on its face if this falls through, too many of them are talking like this is a fait accompli. I’d forgotten about the Einhorn fiasco till you guys reminded me, thanks for that :P

Big difference is with Einhorn the Wilpons were still going to hold majority ownership.

Nah it fell apart because Einhorn had an option to purchase a majority stake in 3 years if the Wilpons didn't make some sort of milestone payment to him.

It was like a combination debt/equity infusion that converted to all equity and diluted Fred/Saul out of the majority position.

Obviously this is more "upfront" about the end game being Cohen in the majority position, but that loss of control is what blew up Einhorn.

Per Andrew Battifarano

Source confirms to me @Forbes report that Steven Cohen will control 51 percent of the Mets when the move is approved/official. Cohen’s money will make immediate impact upon approval

If approved, cash infusion is expected next offseason, per source

I was hoping immediate would mean now not next year.
