I guess it wasn't as easy to make up rainouts and games that couldn't continue after dark back in the days of trains but still I never realized they actually had pennant winners with uneven # of games, other than 1972 when one of the first strikes cost the Red Sox (they were 85-70, the Tigers were 86-70 and the extra game never got made up).
Not to get too off topic, but the one that seemed most wrong was what happened to the Reds in 1981 during the strike shortened season. Best record in baseball but didn't make the playoffs.
They split the halfs like minor league ball and let the two winners of each half make the playoffs. I think that was Seaver's final Cy Young season too.
He should have won the Cy Young but didn't. I think it was Fernando-mania. And Nolan Ryan had a great year too.
The Phillies and Nationals play a 5-game series September 23rd through September 26th (there's a double header in there) at the very end of the season. The Mets just need to take focus on winning and those two can cannibalize each other to end the year.
Edit: The Mets have a 4-game series against the Marlins during the same stretch.
The baseball gods have lined this up for the Mets.

I am getting a 2015 vibe from the team. And while Alonso and McNeil are rightly getting a lot of the attention, the contributions from Rosario and JDD are making a HUGE difference. I love the line-up 1-5. Ramos, Frazier and now Panik are the types of veteran bats that good teams have at the bottom of the order.
Keep the starters healthy. Hope at least one more reliever steps up along with Lugo

This has been amazing. Lest we forget, a lot of folks here had said that the team looked like it should’ve at least been decent, but it wasn’t working for whatever reason and that maybe it was time to burn it all down. This is what it looks like when it’s working.
